Collision records for the Region of Waterloo show that 104 pedestrians were hit on Regional Roads from January to September 2012. This is the highest number since 2009.
There are many things that pedestrians can do to reduce their risk of being hit. Walking on sidewalks, crossing at crosswalks and controlled intersections, not wearing headphones, and wearing brightly coloured/fluorescent clothing when walking at night are just a few of them.
Bob Henderson regional manager of transportation engineering advises pedestrians to “Wear bright clothing. And before crossing, be sure that oncoming motorists can see you.”
