Tenor Coming To River Run

Guelph, ON,– River Run Centre welcomes the return of beloved Canadian tenor, John McDermott, on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. as part of River Run’s Blackmont Capital Music & More Series. He will be joined by special guest Russell De Carle, of Prairie Oyster.

McDermott’s performances have become a long-standing Christmas tradition at River Run and a favourite with his many loyal fans. Whether performing seasonal songs or traditional ballads, McDermott has an uncanny way of speaking directly to the heart. With his signature golden voice and richly textured song arrangements he is able to conjure up vivid emotional landscapes full of love, longing and remembrance.

Veterans’ causes have always been integral to McDermott’s charitable work, and an important theme in his music, especially in his most recent recording, Journeys. McDermott will perform some songs from his new CD which tells the story of our Canadian heroes. Journeys is a deeply personal recording, featuring a number of moving songs such as “The Dreamer” and “The Gift of Years,” written by renowned songwriter Eric Bogle, and the emotional “Bringing Buddy Home,” which has been played on radio in the U.S. and Canada in tribute to the fallen.

Singing was a mere hobby for McDermott less than ten years ago. That changed with the release of his debut album, Danny Boy which received international acclaim and led to his participation in the PBS phenomenon, The Irish Tenors His solo television special, “John McDermott - A Time to Remember” catapulted his career even further, with three Canadian platinum records, five Juno nominations, a solid international touring schedule, and many more subsequent recordings.

Musical guest Russell De Carle, the multi-talented lead singer from Prairie Oyster, will join McDermott for several numbers and perform a few songs from his own latest solo CD. The show will also feature guest appearances of
two Canadian Veterans who will share personal stories with the audience.
