Kitchener, Ontario - If we all saw how nice and pink we are inside we might think twice before we abuse our bodies. This is what many of the museum-goers came away with today after getting a sneak preview of what was literally going on inside the body of works presently at The(Children's) Museum The Museum is pleased to re-open its doors after a two week shutdown in preparation for their new exhibition: Our Body: The Universe Within. The highly anticipated show which features actual human body specimens to awe visitors while teaching them about healthy living, was officially launched today in downtown Kitchener. Following the highly successful, original art exhibition, Andy Warhol's Factory in 2009, The Children's Museum has now unveiled this next captivating exhibition which is now open and receiving members of the public.
Our Body: The Universe Within is an examination of the human body as never before seen in Waterloo Region - with the use of real human body specimens. Many of the whole body specimens are dissected in vivid athletic poses, allowing the visitor to relate to everyday activities and give them the opportunity to view the beauty and complexity of their own organs and systems. This exhibition, which serves to educate and entertain, will enlighten youth and adults alike to understand the complexities of OUR BODY.
The Exhibition, which features 20 polymer-preserved human bodies and more than 200 organs and partial body specimens, will take viewers through an unforgettable journey of the human body to provide an up-close look inside the skeletal, muscular, respiratory and circulatory systems clearly shows how lifestyle choices directly affect our health.
"Bringing Our Body: The Universe Within to The Museum will serve this community by offering yet another opportunity for a unique learning experience with transformative qualities," said David Marskell, The Museum's Chief Executive Officer. "It's a way for people to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the human body - and the scientific methods behind its study."
To complement the specimens on display, The Children's Museum plans to tailor additional exhibits and programming to accommodate and appeal to a wider range of people in and around The Region. The Museum's  existing and highly successful Kids in Motion (KIM), developed in partnership with the University of Guelph's Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences, is a curriculum based program that teaches primary students about healthy living with the help of a life sized mascot KIM, who has removable organs.
It is The Museum's intention to partner with area hospitals, universities, health food outlets, physical education organizations and other related health conscious companies and institutions in order to provide a well rounded show. The Exhibition coincides with Canada hosting the winter Olympics in Vancouver and thus provides the opportunity to offer programming around a physical education component, connecting health, the human body and athleticism.
A portion of the revenue generated by the Exhibition's audio tour guides will be donated to area hospitals.

Complementing exhibit extends Health theme for the youngest visitor
Kitchener, ON – The Children’s Museum is pleased to announce that to complement the highly anticipated Our Body: The Universe Within exhibition set to open January 14th, 2010, they have added a second traveling exhibition called Germs, Germs, Germs - an interactive exhibit designed for young children to demystify germs while promoting proper hygiene and a healthy lifestyle.
Germs, Germs, Germs provides an opportunity for children to be transported to the world of microorganisms and explains how they live, how they’re used and hygiene measures to help prevent their transmission. Walking amongst giant germs and through intestines, kids will experience an up-close look at what the human body deals with on a daily basis and what it is truly capable of. Germs, Germs, Germs looks at the positives and negatives of germs and will leave visitors with a better sense of what they are dealing with in their day-to-day lives.
“Adding an exhibition of this caliber aimed at a younger audience will enrich the overall experience had by people of all ages,” said David Marskell, The Museum’s Chief Executive Officer. “Walking through the exhibit, parents will have the opportunity to learn alongside their child and together reduce their fears and further their understanding of germs. Most importantly, it means that during our three month theme of health, every member of every family can be engaged by what The Museum is offering.”
Germs, Germs, Germs, scheduled to open a week after Our Body: The Universe Within on January 22nd, 2010, is a wonderful chance to delve into the mysteries of microbes and the roles they play in our everyday lives. Admission to this limited time engagement is included with the purchase of a ticket to Our Body: The Universe Within and is also included for the price of regular Museum Admission.
