Guelph, ON,  – River Run Centre presents multi-talented musical artist Jeff Bird on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 8 p.m. as part of its Borealis Music Series. Jeff will be joined by good friends Randall Coryell on percussion and Witek Grabowiecki on piano and accordion, performing live musical scores to many of his short films and still images.

Jeff Bird is best known for his long time association with Cowboy Junkies. He’s also known as the musical wizard who can play anything – including mandolin, harmonica, percussion, violin, guitar, keyboards and woodwinds. His multi-instrumental talents can be heard on the legendary recording The Trinity Session and all Cowboy Junkies’ subsequent albums. He tours extensively with them throughout North America, Europe, Australia and Japan and has performed with them in such venerable venues as the Royal Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall and Massey Hall. Television appearances include Saturday Night Live, Late Night with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson as well as Jay Leno.

Closer to home, Jeff is celebrated as the founding member of the Canadian folk group Tamarack – which was established in 1978 with James Gordon and Randy Sutherland. As a collaborator and side man, Jeff has worked with a host of fine players, including Tamarack, Loreena McKennitt and Over the Rhine. To date he has appeared as a session player and/or producer on over 100 recordings, including two Juno winners: Heartstrings by Willie P. Bennett and Yellowjacket by Stephen Fearing.

Of late Jeff has focused his attention on making short experimental films, which have been screened at festivals in Victoria, Guelph, Toronto, Dawson City and as far away as Vladivostok, Russia. One of his films, Rink, documents one complete season of outdoor skating at the neighbourhood skating rink in Wolfond Park, Guelph. It’s a film that moves beyond traditional documentaries by using original and traditional folk tales to lend and extraordinary air to the film. Those attending Jeff’s performance at River Run on Feb 19th will be treated to a screening of Rink.
