Warrants lead to significant seizure of drugs, cash, charges

A Guelph male faces several charges after nearly $130,000 worth of drugs and cash were seized Thursday.

The Guelph Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit began a drug trafficking investigation several months ago into a Guelph male. The investigation culminated Thursday with the male’s arrest and the execution of search warrants at two homes and a commercial property in the city.

During the searches police seized more than 266 grams of cocaine, 4,800 grams of cannabis, 21.5 grams of MDMA and 2 grams of psilocybin. The controlled substances had a total street value of nearly $50,000.

Officers also seized just under $80,000 in cash, two sets of brass knuckles, functioning digital scales, a vacuum sealer and a large quantity of drug packaging.

A 28-year-old Guelph male is charged with two counts of possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking, possessing a controlled substance, possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling (under the Cannabis Act), possessing proceeds of crime and possessing a prohibited weapon. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.
